World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 Adding Two New Types of Races

World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces two exciting new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races within the new Undermine zone.

Undermine, the Goblin capital, is a sprawling subterranean city where flying is disabled. Instead, players utilize the D.R.I.V.E. system – customizable, high-speed vehicles – for Breakneck races. These races emphasize speed and precision, pushing the D.R.I.V.E. system to its limits.

Complementing the ground-based races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, offering a unique blend of flight mechanics. Unlike traditional Skyriding, players cannot stop mid-air but maintain momentum and altitude, adding a layer of strategic challenge. Collecting rings boosts speed, but also reduces maneuverability, creating a dynamic and demanding racing experience. Footage from the Public Test Realm (PTR) by WoW content creator MrGM showcases this exciting new gameplay.

Key Features:

  • No Skyriding in Undermine: The absence of Skyriding in Undermine necessitates the introduction of these alternative race types.
  • Achievements: Both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer achievements for completing each course with Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Reverse versions of all races are also included, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.
  • Race Variety: The patch includes a diverse selection of races, including:
    • Skyrocket: Skyrocketing Sprint, The Heaps Leap, Scrapshop Shot, Rags to Riches Run.
    • Breakneck: Breakneck Bolt, Junkyard Jaunt, Casino Cruise, Sandy Scuttle.
  • Mixed Reception: Initial player feedback on Skyrocket races has been varied, with some expressing concerns about the flight controls' stiffness. However, the races are still under development, allowing for potential refinements before the February release.

The introduction of Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. and Skyrocket races promises a fresh and exciting racing experience in World of Warcraft, even without traditional Skyriding. The unique challenges and mechanics of each race type ensure a thrilling addition to the game's content.
