"Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 Mod Adds 12-Player Co-Op, Raid Missions Incoming"

The modding community for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been pushing boundaries since its record-breaking launch last year. The latest achievement from Tom, known as Warhammer Workshop and the mastermind behind the Space Marine 2’s excellent Astartes Overhaul, is nothing short of revolutionary. He's just released a 12-player co-op mode, and the gameplay footage is stunning. It shows a group of players engaging a Tyranid Trygon Prime in a battle that feels like a true MMO boss encounter.

This is a feat that many players thought was beyond reach, especially since the vanilla version of Space Marine 2 only supports up to three-player co-op. But with the support from developer Saber Interactive, Tom and his team have not only achieved 12-player co-op but are aiming to transform the game into something even more remarkable.

“Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community,” Tom shared with IGN. “None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do.”

It's important to note that the current mod is still in a testing phase, albeit a successful one. The 12-player co-op mode significantly alters the PvE balance, as it was originally designed for encounters with far fewer players. However, with this new capability unlocked, modders are now developing various add-ons to maximize its potential. Tom mentioned to IGN that they are working on innovative modes such as prop hunt, PvP within operations, extensive updates to the upcoming official horde mode, and most intriguingly, raid-style missions featuring formidable bosses that demand teamwork and introduce entirely new mechanics.

The Space Marine 2 modding community has blossomed into a robust network, boasting around 20,000 members in the main Discord server.

“As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited,” Tom added. “Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles.”

This 12-player mod for Space Marine 2 might be hinting at what we could expect from Space Marine 3. The excitement around Space Marine 2 continues to build, with a new horde mode on the horizon, a fresh class in development, and more Operations maps and weapons being added. Saber recently shared details about Patch 8, confirmed some horde mode mechanics, and unveiled the setting for the new map.

Space Marine 3 is officially in development, which comes as no surprise given the success of Space Marine 2. The announcement of Space Marine 3 promised "large-scale battles that are even more spectacular," which could very well mean an increase in co-op player count.
