Winter Veil Lore Unraveled in New World of Warcraft Video

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft mirrors our real-world Christmas celebrations, offering unique rewards and new additions each year. A recently released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.

This engaging video explores the holiday's in-game origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, drawing parallels to real-world Christmas traditions.

A History Steeped in Lore

No exploration of Winter Veil would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to this, with Metzen the Reindeer expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (fittingly, as Thrall is voiced by Chris Metzen).

This collaboration marks another successful partnership between World of Warcraft and PlatinumWoW. Previous collaborations have included lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, Blackrock Depths, and even guides for in-game events. Blizzard's recent embrace of content creator collaborations also includes Taliesin & Evitel's guides for returning players and Hurricane's stunning cinematic trailers for World of Warcraft Classic.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include the ability for Hunters to tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, along with new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift!
