Xbox Game Pass: A Must-Have for RPG Fans

Author:Kristen Update:May 27,2025

As a dedicated PC gamer who's typically lured in by the frequent Steam sales, I never felt the pull of Xbox Game Pass—until now. Yesterday's unexpected drop of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* by Bethesda and Virtuos directly onto Game Pass was a game-changer. Though it was a poorly kept secret, the reveal was still mind-blowing. And if that wasn't enough, tomorrow sees the addition of *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, the debut title from Sandfall Interactive that promises to bring a fresh take on JRPGs. As a die-hard RPG fan, I must say, Microsoft, you've finally won me over.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both Hit Game Pass This Week

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – 1 Month Membership – Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, Cloud Gaming Devices [Digital Code]

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was revealed and released on PC, consoles, and Game Pass on April 22. Like many others, I spent the day downloading the game and the night immersed in its enchanting music. This borderline-remake boasts new character models, enhanced combat interactions, and stunningly remastered VFX. Despite enlisting over five new voice actors, Virtuos managed to preserve the original's charmingly janky dialogue. The base edition of the remaster is priced at $49.99, which includes the original DLCs, while the deluxe edition costs an additional $10.

Meanwhile, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 marks the eagerly anticipated debut from French studio Sandfall Interactive. Set to launch at midnight PST tonight in the U.S., it boasts an impressive 92 rating on Metacritic. IGN's 9/10 review lauded its story design, calling it "a true modern throwback." The game's stylish UI echoes the Persona series, and the early gameplay footage showcases one of the most innovative turn-based combat systems I've seen. Priced at $49.99 for the base edition, it matches the cost of the Bethesda remaster.

Although Expedition 33 was poised to be the highlight of April's Game Pass lineup, the surprise release of Oblivion Remastered has somewhat overshadowed it. However, from my perspective, we're getting two exceptional games, and Game Pass makes it easier on the wallet. Instead of shelling out $100 for two new titles, I opted for a $20 Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Now, the only question is, when will I see the outdoors again?

A host of 2025's biggest titles, including Blue Prince, South of Midnight, and Avowed, have recently joined the service, alongside classics like GTA V and the full range of Call of Duty. Truly, there's something for everyone.

Game Pass Is a Ridiculously Good Deal Right Now

Game Pass Ultimate is priced at $19.99/month, offering access to the entire Game Pass library across consoles, PCs, and cloud gaming. The PC-exclusive Game Pass is more budget-friendly at $9.99/month. The Standard and Core tiers are $14.99/month and $9.99/month, respectively, but they don't include day-one releases. The last price increase occurred in July 2024, and with these blockbuster game launches, further hikes could be on the horizon this year.

While no live Game Pass deals are currently available, securing a three-month subscription could shield you from future price increases. For deals on other platforms, check out our roundup of PS5, PC, and Switch offers. And don't forget, U.S. preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 go live tonight.
