Ōkami 2 Confirmed to Be a Direct Sequel, Still in Early Development

The highly anticipated Ōkami sequel, announced at last year's Game Awards, has finally received some clarification. While details remain scarce, IGN's recent interview with the project leads revealed key information. The sequel is confirmed as a direct continuation of the original Ōkami's storyline, featuring the return of the sun goddess Amaterasu, a fact confirmed by producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi despite director Hideki Kamiya's playful ambiguity.

The interview addressed the Nintendo DS prequel, Ōkamiden, starring Amaterasu's child, Chibiterasu. Hirabayashi acknowledged mixed fan reception to Ōkamiden, noting inconsistencies with fan expectations regarding the storyline. He emphasized that the new sequel directly follows the original Ōkami's narrative.

The original Ōkami's ending, featuring Amaterasu and another character embarking on an unexplored journey, naturally lends itself to a sequel. This new adventure promises fresh challenges for Amaterasu and the other protagonists.
