Tute Cabrero is a widely enjoyed card game across South America, known for its engaging gameplay and strategic depth. This version of the classic Tute game is played by 3 to 5 players competing individually—there are no teams involved.
The main objective in Tute Cabrero is to either accumulate the most points or, depending on the agreed rules before the game starts, to end up with the least number of points. It's not just about winning—it's about avoiding second place, which often results in a loss.
The game uses a standard deck of 40 Spanish playing cards. The ranking of the cards, from highest to lowest, is as follows:
- Ace – 11 points
- Three (3) – 10 points
- King – 4 points
- Knight – 3 points
- Jack – 2 points
- 7, 6, 5, 4, and 2 – No point value
During gameplay, the first player to lead a trick sets the starting suit, and each subsequent player must follow that suit if possible. If a player doesn't hold any cards of the leading suit, they may play any other card. The trump suit holds the advantage and wins over all other suits. In the absence of trumps, the highest card of the leading suit takes the trick.
