Dragon Quest XII permanece en desarrollo, con información que se revelará gradualmente, según el creador de la serie Yuji Horii.

Durante una reciente transmisión en vivo con su grupo de programas de radio, Kosokoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmó que el equipo de desarrollo de Square Enix está trabajando diligentemente en Dragon Quest XII. Esta marca la primera actualización desde mayo de 2024, después del paso de las figuras clave Akira Toriyama y Koichi Sugiyama. También se había anunciado la partida del productor principal Yu Miyake a la división de juegos móviles de Square de Square Enix.
