Dragon Quest 12 Information to Be Revealed 'Little by Little,' Series Creator Yuji Horii Says

Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with information to be revealed gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii.

During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix development team is diligently working on Dragon Quest XII. This marks the first update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division had also previously been announced.

Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates had fueled fan concerns about the game's potential cancellation. However, Horii's statement effectively confirms that Dragon Quest XII is still actively in production.

Announced as part of the franchise's 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake significantly surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million units sold.
