Arrowhead, the developers behind Helldivers 2, have reassured fans that they are not abandoning the game to focus on their next project, known as "Game 6." In a statement to the official Helldivers Discord, CEO Shams Jorjani addressed concerns sparked by the successful launch of the full-scale Illuminate invasion. Jorjani emphasized that Helldivers 2 remains the primary focus for Arrowhead, stating, "It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it slowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time."

Jorjani also discussed the longevity of Helldivers 2, linking it to the ongoing support from the community. "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going," he said, referencing the game's virtual currency used for purchasing Premium Warbonds. This commitment to continued updates and content comes after a challenging period last summer, from which Arrowhead has recovered thanks to strong community support.

In a separate comment, Jorjani responded to a fan's request for Arrowhead's next game to be available in all regions, avoiding the region-locking issues faced by Helldivers 2. He confirmed that "Game 6" would be fully funded by Arrowhead, allowing them to make all decisions independently. This statement suggests that the next game will not be a Sony-published title like Helldivers 2, and likely not a direct sequel such as Helldivers 3.

Jorjani also touched on the development approach for "Game 6," contrasting it with the eight-year development cycle of Helldivers 2. He noted that Arrowhead aims to "nail the core s**t early on" for their next project, emphasizing the importance of early playtesting to ensure the game is fun from the start. This approach is intended to streamline development and avoid the prolonged struggles experienced with Helldivers 2.

Despite the challenges and controversies since its launch, such as changes to PSN account requirements and community feedback on game balance, Arrowhead remains committed to Helldivers 2. Alex Bolle, the production director, reiterated this commitment in a recent interview with IGN, expressing enthusiasm for the game's future and the potential for new features and systems. "We want it to be around for years and years and years to come," Bolle stated, highlighting the motivation to keep the game fresh and engaging.

Recent leaks suggest that a new playable map, Super Earth, may soon be introduced, coinciding with the narrative progression of the Illuminate invasion reaching the home planet. This addition is a testament to Arrowhead's ongoing dedication to expanding Helldivers 2 and keeping the community engaged.
