Known for his portrayal of Roronoa Zoro in the One Piece live-action series, Mackenyu will voice Gennojo in both English and Japanese. This key character, set within Assassin's Creed Shadows' feudal Japan setting, will play a crucial role in assisting the protagonist. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as:

"A charming, reckless, and deeply conflicted figure, driven by guilt to dismantle a corrupt system. He's a flirtatious rogue and a trickster, balancing wit, deceit, and swagger. Motivated by a strong sense of justice, particularly towards the vulnerable, he's willing to risk everything to achieve his goals."

While the exact timing of Gennojo's appearance remains undisclosed, his importance to the game's narrative is confirmed. According to Mackenyu, Gennojo is a member of the "Shinobi League" and can be recruited as a companion throughout the player's journey.
