Captain America: Brave New World has debuted strongly, with projections estimating a $100 million domestic box office take during the Presidents Day holiday weekend.

According to Comscore, the latest Marvel Studios film earned approximately $88.5 million across 4,105 theaters over three days, with expectations to reach $100 million over four days. Combined with $92.4 million from international markets, the movie is poised for a global weekend total of around $192.4 million.

Deadline reports that Captain America: Brave New World, produced with a $180 million budget, needs roughly $425 million globally to break even.

In context, the film’s opening ranks as the fourth-highest Presidents Day weekend debut, trailing only three other superhero films: Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million).

Despite its strong box office start, Captain America: Brave New World has faced mixed reviews. IGN’s review gave it a 5/10, noting: “Captain America: Brave New World lacks boldness and originality, with underwhelming performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly.”

The film’s performance is under scrutiny as it aims to reverse a downward trend for Marvel Cinematic Universe releases, excluding last year’s hit Deadpool & Wolverine, and pave the way for upcoming titles like Thunderbolts* in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
