Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

Citizen Sleeper 2 begins by offering three distinct character classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. The optimal choice hinges entirely on your preferred playstyle. Based on a completed playthrough, here's a breakdown of each class, encompassing their abilities and potential roleplaying avenues.

Operator

The Operator starts with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is unlevelable. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While powerful later on, the Operator presents a steeper early-game challenge. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed boon. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers maximum flexibility, fitting diverse character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist begins with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is unlevelable. Their ability involves spending Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, offset by losing 2 Stress on a successful outcome. This bonus increases as the game progresses.

This was my personal favorite class. The ability proved highly effective in overcoming difficult situations, particularly given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The built-in Stress reduction is a significant advantage, mitigating one of the game's most demanding mechanics. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability allows a Stress expenditure to add +2 to the lowest die of a crew member, with upgrades enhancing this crew support throughout the game.

The Extractor's ability is exceptionally useful for managing contract risks. The initial Endure bonus is also beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lead to skill redundancy. This class is ideal for players who enjoy a more physically-focused, "bruiser" style.
