Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind A Quiet Place: Day One, has been tapped to write and direct the live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' critically acclaimed Death Stranding.

According to Deadline, Sarnoski will helm the project with production support from A24, Kojima Productions, and Square Peg. The director previously showcased his talents in the A Quiet Place prequel Day One and the 2021 Nicolas Cage-led drama Pig. He's also developing The Death of Robin Hood, another collaboration with A24.

Details remain sparse about the live-action take on Death Stranding's complex narrative. The 2019 game immersed players in a post-apocalyptic America struggling to reconnect amid supernatural threats and bizarre phenomena. The premise already holds strong cinematic potential, further amplified by Hideo Kojima's signature filmic style.

The original game boasted an impressive ensemble cast featuring Norman Reedus as protagonist Sam Bridges, alongside Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. Whether these actors will return for the adaptation remains an intriguing question.

The Death Stranding universe continues expanding, with Kojima Productions announcing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for PlayStation 5, slated for June 26, 2025. The sequel introduces new talent including Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning to the franchise.

While progress on the Metal Gear Solid film appears slow, Death Stranding's rich narrative and visual storytelling make it particularly well-suited for a successful transition to live-action cinema.
