Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu stands out as an exceptionally agile adversary in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements can be particularly frustrating due to its unique shape. Much like Nu Udra, its dark complexion makes it challenging to discern its front from its back. Beyond contending with its multiple arms, Xu Wu has the unsettling ability to merge into walls and vanish momentarily. It often reappears from the ceiling, attempting to pounce on you. This maneuver is limited to its nest area, so extra caution is advised when battling there.

Use Ice Attacks

Xu Wu's susceptibility to the Ice element in Monster Hunter Wilds makes it a prime target for ice-based strategies. Whether you opt for Ice ammo or prefer melee combat, equipping gear that inflicts elemental damage is crucial. Enhancing your equipment with a Frost Jewel to activate the Ice Attack skill is highly recommended. Carrying a Frost Pod can also provide a tactical advantage, allowing you to deal additional Ice damage.

Avoid the Grab Attack

Xu Wu employs a variety of tactics, including tentacle strikes and sudden dives, but its grab attack is particularly hazardous. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your standard weapons. However, you have a brief two-second window to break free. Utilizing your slinger, especially with Frost Pods, offers an effective means of escape.

Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth

The most vulnerable part of Xu Wu is its mouth, hidden beneath its body and only visible during its diving attacks. Landing a potent strike during these moments can cause significant damage and might even break its mouth, yielding Xu Wu's fang. If targeting the mouth proves difficult, the head is another viable option, with a 4-star weakness to both blunt and cut damage, and a 3-star weakness to ammo.

Use Poison

Leveraging Xu Wu's 3-star weakness to Poison can significantly tilt the battle in your favor. Equipping a bow with Poison Coating is particularly effective for applying this status ailment. While other status effects can be employed, it's best to steer clear of Sleep, as it's less impactful against this monster.
