Path of Exile 2's Double Herald setup (Herald of Ice + Herald of Thunder) creates a powerful chain reaction, clearing screens with a single hit. This guide explains how to implement and understand this technique.

How to Use Double Herald (Herald of Ice + Herald of Thunder)

This strategy requires:

1. Herald of Ice: Socketed with Lightning Infusion Support.
2. Herald of Thunder: Socketed with Cold Infusion Support (Glaciation is also recommended).
3. 60 Spirit.
4. A method to inflict Cold damage.

Remember to activate both Heralds in your skill menu.

Effective ways to initially trigger Herald of Ice include:

• Inherent skills like the Monk's Ice Strike.
• Passive skills boosting Freeze buildup.
• Gloves or weapons with flat cold damage.
• The Against the Darkness Time-Lost Diamond Jewel (+Cold damage percentage).

How Double Herald Works

• Herald of Ice: Triggers when an enemy is Shattered (attacking a frozen enemy). Crucially, Herald of Ice's cold damage cannot Freeze, preventing self-sustaining chains.
• Herald of Thunder: Triggers upon killing a Shocked enemy, unleashing damaging electricity. Similarly, it cannot inflict Shock independently.

The key is the synergy:

• Lightning Infusion converts some of Herald of Ice's damage to Lightning, which can Shock.
• Cold Infusion converts some of Herald of Thunder's damage to Cold, which can Freeze.

This allows a chain reaction: Herald of Ice (via Lightning) shocks, triggering Herald of Thunder; Herald of Thunder (via Cold) freezes, triggering Herald of Ice, and so on. While theoretically infinite, in practice, the chain usually ends after one or two cycles due to enemy density. Breaches are ideal due to their high enemy concentration.

Initiating the chain requires initially proccing Herald of Ice by Freezing and shattering an enemy using a cold skill (like Ice Strike). This icy explosion will also Shock, starting the reaction. Prioritizing Herald of Ice is beneficial because Freeze is easier to inflict than Shock, and Herald of Thunder's lightning bolts have better range.
