Kojima Ready to Direct Film After Completing PlayStation Game 'Physint' in 5-6 Years

Hideo Kojima’s highly anticipated spiritual successor to *Metal Gear*, titled Physint, remains “another five or six years” from reaching players, according to the visionary game director himself. In a recent interview with Le Film Francais, Kojima confirmed that his long-held ambition of directing a feature film is currently on pause until he completes his first "action espionage" title since his well-documented departure from Konami in 2015.

“I've had so many offers since I left Konami, with serious conditions to develop games in my independent studio,” Kojima shared, as translated by ResetEra user Red Kong XIX. “Besides *Death Stranding 2*, there's also *Physint* in development. That will take me another five or six years.

“But maybe after that, I could finally decide to take on a film,” he added. “I grew up with cinema. Directing would be, in a way, a tribute to it. Also, I'm getting older, and I'd prefer to do it while I'm still young!”

Play The *Physint* announcement originally came from PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst back in January 2024. Since then, however, official updates have been minimal. At the time of its reveal, Kojima hinted at a cinematic vision for the project, later clarifying via X (formerly Twitter) that while not literally a movie, the experience would blend “look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc… all at the next level of ‘Digital Entertainment’” — a concept he believes redefines what interactive media can achieve.

This ambitious title is just one of several projects currently in motion at Kojima Productions. Alongside *Physint*, the studio continues work on *Death Stranding 2* and *OD*, the latter being a brand-new IP developed in partnership with Xbox Game Studios. *OD* features creative contributions from actress Hunter Schafer and acclaimed filmmaker Jordan Peele. Meanwhile, Kojima also serves as executive producer for A24’s upcoming *Death Stranding* film adaptation.

Speaking of which, *Death Stranding 2: On The Beach* is set to launch on June 26, much to the excitement of fans worldwide. Norman Reedus, who plays protagonist Sam Porter Bridges, recently hinted at his involvement in the film adaptation during an interview with IGN, stating confidently that "of course" he would play himself in the movie.

In other Kojima news, the auteur recently unveiled a series of abandoned game concepts, including a unique idea for a “Forgetting Game.” In this experimental design, players would gradually lose key abilities and memories if they took an extended break from playing — a bold twist on engagement mechanics. Even more intriguingly, Kojima revealed last week that he has already prepared a USB drive filled with unreleased game ideas to leave behind for his team after his passing — ensuring his creative legacy lives on beyond his own time.
