Oblivion Remake Details Leak Online

Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

Rumors are swirling around the gaming community with the alleged leak of details concerning a remake of *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion*, set to hit the shelves in 2025. According to Mp1st, a former employee at Virtuos, a video game support studio, inadvertently disclosed these details. When approached by IGN, Microsoft opted not to comment on the matter.

Mp1st claims that Virtuos has utilized Unreal Engine 5 to completely remake Bethesda's iconic open-world role-playing game, indicating a substantial overhaul rather than a simple remaster. The leaked information suggests significant gameplay changes, including modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the heads-up display (HUD).

Reportedly, the changes to Blocking were inspired by action games and Soulslikes, aiming to address the original system's perceived dullness and frustration. Sneak icons are now supposedly more visible, and damage calculation has been revamped. The mechanics surrounding Stamina depletion leading to a knockdown have been made more challenging to trigger. Additionally, the HUD has been redesigned for better clarity, hit reactions have been enhanced for improved responsiveness, and Archery has been updated for both first and third-person viewpoints.

The notion of an *Oblivion* remaster first surfaced in 2023 during the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Leaked documents from July 2020, before Microsoft's March 2021 purchase of ZeniMax Media, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an *Oblivion Remaster* slated for the financial year 2022. Other projects mentioned were an Indiana Jones game, *Doom Year Zero* and its DLC, *Project Kestrel*, *Project Platinum*, *The Elder Scrolls 6*, a *Project Kestrel* expansion, a licensed IP game, a *Fallout 3 Remaster*, a *Ghostwire: Tokyo* sequel, *Dishonored 3*, and more *DOOM Year Zero* DLC. Many of these titles have faced delays or cancellations, with *Doom Year Zero* now known as *Doom: The Dark Ages* and set for release this year, and *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle* launching in December 2024.

The distinction between a remaster and a remake is crucial here. While the Microsoft document referred to an *Oblivion Remaster*, the leaked details suggest a more ambitious project. It remains to be seen how Bethesda will officially present this game, which has become one of the gaming industry's least secretive projects.

As for the platforms on which the *Oblivion* remake will be available, Microsoft's current strategy favors multiplatform releases. With the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, it's possible that *Oblivion* could extend its reach beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to include Nintendo's new console. Leaker NateTheHate has suggested a June 2025 release for the *Oblivion* remake, which could align with the Switch 2's rumored launch window.

Next week's Xbox Developer Direct will see ZeniMax-owned id Software unveil more about *Doom: The Dark Ages*. Microsoft has also hinted at revealing a new game from a mystery developer, but it doesn't seem to be related to *Oblivion*. Windows Central's Jez Corden has teased that this game is a new installment in a legendary Japanese IP with a long history, promising to delight many fans.
