The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is brimming with eerie elements like skeletons, spirits, and zombies, but one mysterious sighting has caught everyone's attention: a ghostly horse that no one recalls from either the original 2006 release or the 2025 remaster.
It all started with a Reddit post by user TaricIsNotASupport, who stumbled upon what appears to be a spectral horse lurking in the game.
Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting silly spells in Frostcrag Spire, which is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the game. But this time, as I stepped out of the Cosy Chaos Spire—a feature that's sparked much debate within the community—I spotted something incredibly strange in the distance," TaricIsNotASupport recounted.
"Like any sensible player, I dashed over to investigate. To my surprise, there it was—a spectral horse without a name. I've sunk thousands of hours into the original Oblivion and over a hundred into the Remaster, yet this is the first time I've encountered this ghostly steed. I'm unsure if it's a new addition or something I've simply overlooked until now."
TaricIsNotASupport reached out to the community for insights, igniting a digital ghost hunt. Players scoured the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages for any mention of a spectral mount in the original game, but found nothing.
To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

Could this be the work of a mod? TaricIsNotASupport clarified they're playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not an option. They even shared a video of their character riding the horse, which, despite its ethereal appearance, behaves just like any other mount in Oblivion. "He can fast travel and even get stabled!" TaricIsNotASupport exclaimed. "By all accounts, it's now my steed!"
Some speculate that this ghost horse might be the result of a glitch, perhaps triggered by a misfired spell. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs—one even causes camera issues the longer you play—and this ghost horse might just be another quirky addition.
"Very weird, the wiki says there's only 2 unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," ClaymoreBeatz commented. "And there's no horse mods that I can see that do this so I highly doubt you're lying about not being on PC, this is probably some sort of glitch that the new Remastered has or glitched magical effect. Armored horses names change to Armored horse I think so maybe it's an Armored horse that got hit by a spell and now its name and spell effect is glitched."
I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Others wonder if the developers at Bethesda and Virtuos might have sneakily added this ghost horse as a hidden surprise for players to discover in Oblivion Remastered. While this seems less likely, it's an intriguing possibility that raises questions about other potential secrets hidden within the remaster.
Many players are eager to replicate this phenomenon and claim a ghostly steed of their own. Unfortunately, no specific method for spawning the horse has been identified yet.
In the absence of an official name, TaricIsNotASupport has affectionately dubbed their ghostly companion 'Spookmane.' They've pledged to continue their adventures with Spookmane by their side, whether it's a one-off glitch, a hidden feature, or something else entirely. Spookmane has certainly captured the imagination and affection of the Oblivion community.
"This creature might be my favorite new friend I’ve made," TaricIsNotASupport said. "Spookmane, you’re glorious and I love you."
Oblivion Remastered, crafted by remake specialists Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts numerous visual and gameplay enhancements. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, but the upgrades go deeper. From improved leveling systems and character creation to revamped combat animations and menus, the game has seen significant enhancements. New dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have been well-received by fans, some of whom argue that Oblivion Remastered is more of a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified their choice to pursue a remaster approach.
With the game now available, players are advising newcomers to tackle Kvatch early on before the level scaling turns it into a daunting challenge. There's also buzz about a player who managed to break out of Cyrodiil to explore Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, the speculated setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
