Pitchford Defends $80 Borderlands 4 Fan Remark

Randy Pitchford sparks controversy with Borderlands 4 pricing comments

The gaming community continues reacting strongly to Randy Pitchford's $80 Borderlands 4 remarks, with rival publishers now joining the conversation. Pitchford has doubled down by referencing earlier statements about the game's pricing with his signature "If you want the truth, here it is" approach.

Devolver Digital Seizes the Moment

Edgy publisher Devolver Digital - known for Hotline Miami and Cult of the Lamb - couldn't resist jumping on the trending topic. The studio cleverly promoted their upcoming Borderlands-style shooter Mycopunk by comparing its cooperative pricing model to Borderlands 4's potential cost.

The controversy began when a fan expressed concerns about the rumored $80 price tag:

"Randy, this game better not be 80 dollars. Don't take that risk...You are the CEO, you have some say with the price"

Pitchford's now-infamous reply:

"If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen"

Devolver cheekily responded by highlighting that Mycopunk could accommodate four players for the price of one Borderlands 4 copy. Even Pitchford engaged with their tweet, quipping about the game being "cheaper than a point of meth." His attempt at humor only fueled the backlash further.

Community Backlash Intensifies

Fan reactions ranged from piracy threats to heartfelt pleas for damage control:

"Randy we are begging you to stop. BL4 had so much hype and it's being ruined in a day"

The Gearbox CEO has since directed attention to his more measured PAX East comments, where he acknowledged the industry's pricing dilemma:

"I'll tell you the truth. I don't know [the price]. It's getting gnarly out there...Borderlands 4 has more than twice the development budget than Borderlands 3"

The Price Debate Continues

Borderlands content creator Moxsy summarized the core issue:

"Fans want the price to be justified by ambition, passion, and quality...This toxic 'not a real fan' mentality is not it"

As the September 12 release approaches, all eyes remain on 2K Games' impending price announcement for Borderlands 4.
