Square Enix Reveals Kingdom Hearts 4, Promises Unforgettable Experience

Author:Kristen Update:May 22,2025

Square Enix has put all doubts to rest with a resounding confirmation that Kingdom Hearts 4 is still in active development. In a vibrant social media post brimming with new images, the developer reassures fans that the game is on track and promises an unforgettable experience. This update comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the GPS-based action-RPG Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link for mobile has been canceled. However, Square Enix seized the moment to affirm their commitment to Kingdom Hearts 4, stating, "We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!"

Accompanying this message was a compelling collage showcasing various elements from the game, including character introductions, cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and a glimpse at a formidable enemy. Fans can explore these tantalizing images in the slideshow below:

Expressing gratitude for the community's enthusiasm, Square Enix shared in a follow-up post, "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This marks the first substantial update on the eagerly awaited sequel in months, the last being a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Although revealed in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had maintained a low profile until now. Series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that after 22 years and 18 games, Kingdom Hearts 4 will start steering the narrative towards its grand finale.

Regarding the canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel stemmed from the realization that "it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
