Steam Set to Release "Grand Taking Ages" Parody Game

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 19,2025

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. Initially released on PlayStation with AI-generated assets and a May 2025 release date, Sony swiftly removed the game.

Grand Taking Ages, a management simulator where players run a game development studio, satirizes the long-awaited release of Rockstar's GTA 6. The game's initial PlayStation Store listing featured artwork reminiscent of Rockstar's style, along with a list of humorous, unrealistic gameplay features.

Following its PlayStation removal, the developers, Violarte, made significant changes to secure Steam approval. These changes included removing "VI" from the title, updating the logo, descriptions, and visuals to better distinguish it from GTA 6, and clarifying the use of AI services for voiceovers (as per Steam's AI guidelines). The updated Steam page features a new trailer and screenshots emphasizing the parody aspect.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

Violarte adopted a proactive approach with Valve, discussing the game concept before submission to ensure alignment with Steam's policies. They cite other projects like "Grand Theft Hamlet" as precedent for parody protection. The updated Steam description reads: "Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of 'creative' deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!"

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

Despite Steam's approval, Violarte aims to reinstate Grand Taking Ages on the PlayStation Store, citing the successful Steam launch as evidence of the game's revised compliance with platform guidelines. The contrasting experiences with Sony and Valve highlight the differences in their content curation processes. While Steam's more open policy allows for a wider range of games, including those utilizing AI, Sony's stricter approach raises questions about its content review. Rockstar's GTA 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
