Ubisoft Addresses Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak

Author:Kristen Update:May 03,2025

On February 24, we reported the unexpected leak of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which surfaced online with numerous individuals streaming the game a full month before its official release scheduled for March 20.

Over the weekend, the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit highlighted now-deleted social media posts that revealed physical copies of the game were being sold prematurely. Additionally, multiple streams of the unreleased game emerged on platforms like Twitch, further spreading the leak.

In response, Ubisoft, the developer and publisher behind the title, addressed the issue on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. They acknowledged that some players had gained early access to Assassin’s Creed Shadows and emphasized that the development team was still working on patches to ensure a high-quality launch experience. Ubisoft stated, "The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch, and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game."

Ubisoft expressed disappointment over the leaks, noting that they could dampen the excitement for players. They urged the community to refrain from spoiling the experience for others, saying, "Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players. We kindly ask you not to spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers."

Encouraging fans to remain patient, Ubisoft concluded with, "Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks! March 20 will be here soon!"

These leaks add to a series of challenges for Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. The development team has previously faced criticism for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission and for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was originally slated for a November release but was postponed first to February 14 and then to the current release date of March 20. With a struggling Ubisoft needing a strong performance following disappointing sales of recent titles and facing investor backlash, the success of this game is crucial.
