Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has rolled out patch 1.0.1 just as the strategy game hits its full launch following an advanced access phase. This period was met with a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, sparking various community concerns. The feedback primarily focused on issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and the feeling that the game launched missing key features that fans expected.
In a recent interview with IGN, ahead of the release of its third-quarter financial results, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the mixed reviews from both press and players. He remains optimistic, suggesting that the "legacy Civ audience" will warm up to Civilization 7 the more they engage with it. Zelnick described the game's early performance as "very encouraging."
With Civilization 7 now fully accessible to all players, not just those who paid for early access, Firaxis has introduced Patch 2, available exclusively for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck users. In a Steam post, Firaxis described this as the first in a series of patches aimed at responding to feedback received during the advanced access period. Below are the detailed patch notes.
Firaxis has also temporarily disabled crossplay multiplayer to speed up the update process for the PC version. This means that patches, including today's 1.0.1, may be released at different times for PC and console versions. However, this change will not affect console players' ability to play cross-platform with other console users or PC-to-PC multiplayer, as clarified by Firaxis.

A note about cross-play multiplayer: To expedite updates to the PC experience, we will sometimes deploy patches to PC at a different cadence than we do on consoles - including today's Patch 1.0.1. As a result, cross-play between PC players and console players is temporarily disabled. This will have no impact on console players attempting cross-platform play with other console players, nor on PC-to-PC multiplayer.
