Elden Ring Nightreign Sells 2 Million Units in First 24 Hours

"Initial pre-orders and launch sales have propelled the game past the remarkable 2 million units sold mark," announced publisher Bandai Namco.

The multiplayer co-op spin-off launched overnight and quickly climbed Steam's most-played charts, achieving an impressive peak of 313,593 concurrent players.

This figure doesn't account for the complete picture, as Microsoft and Sony don't disclose Xbox and PlayStation player counts. However, FromSoftware has revealed the game's substantial success with their sales announcement.

While Elden Ring became a phenomenon with 30 million sales since its 2022 release, Nightreign likely won't match that success. For comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies in its first three days during 2024. Observers are watching to see if Nightreign can achieve similar numbers.

Despite its commercial success, the game faces criticism. Steam users have given it a 'Mixed' rating, citing issues like the absence of two-player co-op and voice chat functionality. Players also report the solo experience being excessively challenging, with difficulties forming three-player squads. A patch to adjust solo difficulty is expected next week.

As noted in IGN's review: "Primary warning for solo players: Nightreign presents an extreme challenge if attempting to play alone. Unless you're an elite Elden Ring veteran who thrives on punishing difficulty, this experience may prove too demanding. The current solo balancing seems so problematic that significant adjustments within the first month appear inevitable."
