Marvel Rivals' Hitbox Controversy

Marvel Rivals

A recent Reddit thread highlighted significant hitbox issues in Marvel Rivals, a new competitive shooter. Players demonstrated instances where Spider-Man, at a considerable distance, landed hits on Luna Snow, a discrepancy captured in-game footage. Further examples showed hits registering despite visually missing their target. While some attribute this to lag compensation, the core problem appears to be flawed hitbox geometry. Professional players have even demonstrated consistent damage when aiming slightly right of the crosshair, while shots to the left frequently miss, indicating a systemic hitbox problem across multiple characters.

Despite this criticism, Marvel Rivals, dubbed the "Overwatch killer," experienced a remarkably successful Steam launch. Over 444,000 concurrent players logged in on its first day—a number comparable to Miami's population. While optimization issues, particularly noticeable on lower-end graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce 3050, are a major concern, many players praise the game's enjoyable gameplay and fair monetization. A key factor in this positive reception is the non-expiring nature of battle passes, eliminating the pressure to constantly grind. This feature alone may significantly influence player perception of the game.
