Top Mod Enhances Performance for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 03,2025

For fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, the game’s performance issues have been a notable drawback.

Tech analysts at Digital Foundry have highlighted severe performance challenges with Oblivion Remastered on PC. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as “one of the most poorly optimized games I’ve tested for Digital Foundry.”

“Even with top-tier hardware, the stuttering is unbearable, severely impacting the gameplay experience to a point where it’s hard to fathom how it was deemed release-ready,” Battaglia noted.

“Beyond the stuttering, this is one of the most resource-heavy games I’ve encountered. Even if you tolerate the choppy performance, you’ll need to lower settings to maintain a decent frame rate,” he added.

It’s no shock, then, that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0’s ‘Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),’ downloaded an impressive 386,604 times in under a week.

Here’s the mod’s description:

“Targeted Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ tweaks designed to eliminate most stutters, boost performance and stability, reduce input lag, and enhance image clarity—all without sacrificing visual quality.”

“After extensive UE5 testing, I’m excited to share my optimized ‘Engine.ini’ tweaks for the game,” P40L0 stated.

“My aim was to pack in as many optimizations as possible (for CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD) to minimize stuttering, improve performance, lower input lag, and sharpen visuals by removing effects like Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, while optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling—without introducing glitches or visual compromises.”

Feedback for the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. “No more stuttering! Absolutely incredible, thank you!” said chubbyd07. “This .ini file is a game-changer. I went from 15-20 fps outside the prison to a stable 65-70 fps on a 3600XT and 2060 with 20GB of RAM,” yeeto51 commented. “Unbelievable! I jumped from 60fps on High Preset near Waynon Priory to 90-110fps in the same area. Pure magic!” exclaimed BabaSmith.

Despite its PC performance woes, Oblivion Remastered remains a hit, boasting a strong Steam concurrent player peak and over 4 million players across platforms, with a ‘very positive’ user review rating on Steam.

A recent hotfix on April 25 has disrupted Microsoft Store players’ ability to adjust graphics settings, particularly for upscaling and anti-aliasing, due to a UI glitch. Bethesda is actively addressing the issue for Game Pass PC users.
