Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations Following CEO's Retirement

Ratchet and Clank 2nd Movie Considered by Insomniac GamesInsomniac Games, renowned for its Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed keen interest in expanding its game-to-screen adaptations. This was revealed by co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider in a recent Variety interview, coinciding with the announcement of founder and CEO Ted Price's retirement after 30 years.

"Reflecting on the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film, we gained valuable experience," Schneider stated. "Naturally, we're eager to pursue more projects of this nature, especially with Ratchet & Clank, which holds a special place in our hearts."

The 2016 film received mixed critical reception. However, with Sony's acquisition of Insomniac in 2019 and Sony's proven success in game adaptations (notably, the critically acclaimed The Last of Us), Insomniac is optimistic about its future endeavors in this area.

Further bolstering its commitment to this strategy, Sony unveiled additional projects at CES 2025:

  • The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025)
  • Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025)
  • Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027)
  • Helldivers feature film (release date TBA)
  • Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film (release date TBA)

Insomniac's Leadership Transition

Price cited his decision as a natural progression after three decades at the helm, emphasizing the importance of handing the reins to individuals deeply embedded within the company's culture.

Three long-time Insomniac veterans—Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang—will assume leadership as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in their ability to guide Insomniac's continued success.
