Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is set to impress with its performance across various gaming platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. This sequel aims to deliver a seamless gaming experience, with extensive testing showing promising results. Dive in to discover how KCD2 performs on different systems and the customizable settings available to enhance your gameplay.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's performance on PlayStation and Xbox consoles has been reported as smooth, with options to run the game at both 30fps and 60fps. On the PS5 Pro, KCD2 leverages enhanced capabilities to provide improved graphics, further elevating the game's visual experience. The use of CryTek's CryEngine continues from the first game, enabling Warhorse Studios to refine and expand on the engine's features for this sequel.
CryEngine is noted for its old-school rendering approach, which focuses on performance rather than the extensive use of shaders and complex lighting seen in engines like Unreal Engine. However, KCD2 achieves photo-realistic visuals thanks to its use of physically based materials and CryEngine’s sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI). This technology creates realistic indirect light effects, enhancing the game's lighting and reflections on various surfaces.
For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, players can choose between two modes: a fidelity mode running at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode at 60fps with 1080p resolution. The Xbox Series S supports only the fidelity mode. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro offers a single mode, running at 60fps with a resolution of 1296p, upscaled to 4K using PSSR technology.
The fidelity mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X enhances rendering with more detailed foliage and improved shadow quality, making outdoor scenes more visually appealing and enhancing ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro takes these improvements further, offering sharper images, better ambient occlusion, and overall superior visual quality.
On PC, upscaling for KCD2 is optional, with players having the flexibility to adjust settings to suit their hardware. The available upscaling options include FSR and DLSS, allowing the game to be rendered at a lower resolution for better performance. Notably, there are no options for XeSS, sharpening, or frame generation.
Despite CryEngine's focus on performance, running KCD2 at 4K with maximum settings will still demand significant GPU power. However, the game offers five quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—allowing players to scale graphics according to their system capabilities. An in-depth guide provided by KCD2 helps players prepare their systems, detailing the necessary specs for CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is scheduled for release on February 4, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more details, visit our dedicated Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 page.
