Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Debut: A Million Copies Sold in a Day

A Resounding Success Across Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a spectacular launch, achieving both critical acclaim and impressive sales figures across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed one million copies sold within 24 hours of its February 4, 2025 release – a feat significantly outpacing its predecessor's nine-day milestone.

SteamDB data reveals a concurrent player count peaking at 176,285 within a six-hour window, eclipsing KCD1's all-time high of 96,069. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent 12th position among PlayStation games in the US, as featured on the PlayStation Store homepage at the time of this writing. OpenCritic awarded the game a strong "Mighty" rating, boasting an 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.

Addressing Critical Feedback and Online Backlash

Despite the largely positive reception, KCD2 has faced some criticism and negative reviews. Creative Director Daniel Vávra responded publicly on Twitter (X) to these dissenting opinions, highlighting discrepancies between the game's overall positive reception and some significantly lower scores from specific review outlets. These outlets characterized the gameplay as a "slog" or overly demanding, impacting the game's aggregate score on OpenCritic. Vávra's responses were direct, even sarcastic, questioning the journalistic integrity of these reviews.

Vávra also addressed online attacks targeting the game's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He publicly challenged several Metacritic user reviews that labeled KCD2 as "historically inaccurate DEI game," urging fans to counter these negative comments and report any bot activity. He reiterated that LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional and depends on player choices within the expansive open-world medieval setting.
