Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates

Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero breaks away from the Soulslike genre, offering players four distinct difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move sets it apart from the typically challenging Soulslike games, which often lack adjustable difficulty. Despite drawing initial comparisons to Soulslikes due to its dark aesthetic and combat style, the game's director, Soulframe, has made it clear through a tweet following the Summer Game Fest 2024 that Phantom Blade Zero is not just another Soulslike. He emphasized a focus on "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."

While Phantom Blade Zero does take inspiration from Soulslike games with its multi-layered maps and exploration elements, Soulframe describes it as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending intense hack-and-slash action with expansive world exploration.

Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More

Phantom Blade Zero is shaping up to be a robust gaming experience, offering players a choice between 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique effects and gameplay mechanics. Expect a main story playthrough that spans 20-30 hours, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.

Boss battles in Phantom Blade Zero are designed to be challenging, featuring at least two phases. If you fall during the second phase, you can restart from there, sparing you the need to redo the entire fight. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," lets you rematch previous bosses, unlocking hidden challenges and new bosses to conquer.

Additionally, the game includes a mechanic that influences its ending, though details on how this works and the number of alternate endings remain under wraps.
