With Sid Meier's Civilization VII launching next week, the review embargo has lifted, offering a glimpse into the game's strengths and weaknesses. Several key themes emerge from the initial critical response.

A major point of praise centers on the new Era System, a significant departure from previous iterations. This system dynamically evolves civilizations over time, addressing past criticisms of excessively long matches and runaway civilizations. Each of the three distinct eras presents a unique gameplay experience with its own technologies and victory conditions.
