Kitase further clarified previous statements, confirming the story's completion and expressing satisfaction with the results. He described the process of handing the concluding narrative to Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, emphasizing the goal of creating a satisfying conclusion that honors the original while adding its own unique elements. "That was finally completed at the end of the year, and the scenario for the third installment was completed there," Kitase stated, expressing confidence that fans will be pleased with the trilogy's conclusion.

Following the successful launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in early 2024, Kitase and Hamaguchi admitted to initial concerns regarding player reception. Kitase acknowledged the pressure of following up the first game's success and the challenges of creating a satisfying sequel within a trilogy. However, the overwhelmingly positive critical and fan response to Rebirth alleviated these concerns and boosted the team's confidence for the final game. Hamaguchi added, "In that sense, I think we have done our job of creating a good atmosphere for the third installment." The game's success is attributed in part to Hamaguchi's "logic-based approach" to development, as detailed in a separate interview with Automaton, where he explained a process of carefully considering feedback while maintaining a clear vision for the game's overall direction.

The Rise of PC Gaming

The developers also discussed the growing dominance of PC gaming. Kitase highlighted the rising development costs and the need to reach a broader audience, noting that PCs offer a global reach unavailable to consoles in some regions. He stated, "As for PCs, there are no borders, so I think it's inevitable that PC versions will be released in order to allow more people to play."

This perspective influenced the decision to release the PC port of Rebirth swiftly. Hamaguchi explained, "I feel like the flow of game users in the world has changed a lot there. That's why we focused on making the PC version of FFVII Rebirth shorter than the period when the PC version of FFVII Remake was released."

The positive reception of the first two games, coupled with the completed storyline for Part 3, sets a high expectation for the final installment. The team's experience and the growing trend of PC releases suggest that fans worldwide may experience the complete Remake Project sooner than anticipated.
