Fans of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2* are thrilled as the game's developer, Saber Interactive, has empowered modders by releasing their internal editor, known as the Integration Studio, for public use. This move has sparked optimism that the game could enjoy a long-lasting life similar to *Skyrim*, fueled by user-generated content. Game director Dmitry Grigorenko made the announcement on the Space Marine 2 modding Discord, calling it a major milestone in supporting the modding community.

The Integration Studio is the very tool used by developers for gameplay development, and its public release allows modders to manipulate everything from level scenarios and game modes to AI behavior, abilities, melee combos, user interfaces, and HUD elements. This comprehensive access promises to accelerate and simplify modding efforts for *Space Marine 2*.

Grigorenko reaffirmed their commitment to the modding scene, expressing inspiration and humility at the community's growth and creativity. He's eager to see what modders will come up with next, be it cinematic campaigns, innovative game modes, or unexpected surprises. To kick things off, he shared a humorous concept art for a "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game, teasing its feasibility with the new tools.

To get a sense of the modding community's plans, I spoke with Tom, known as Warhammer Workshop, the creator of the acclaimed *Astartes Overhaul* mod for *Space Marine 2*. Having recently enabled 12-player co-op, Tom now has access to all scripting tools for missions and game components like weapons and abilities. This opens up possibilities such as a roguelite mode where players start with just a combat knife and face escalating enemy challenges, with chances to acquire weapons, ammo, and health upon defeating foes.

While a new cinematic campaign featuring the Chaos faction is feasible, Tom noted that creating cutscenes remains challenging due to limited access to animation tools. However, he's working on introducing new factions like the Tau and Necrons, whose rigs are available to modders. Meanwhile, the community is racing to bring Grigorenko's fishing mini-game to life.

The response from *Space Marine 2* fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite the game's success and status as one of the best-selling Warhammer video games, it offers only three factions: Space Marines, Chaos, and the Tyrannids. With the modding tools now in hand, players can expand the game's universe, fulfilling hopes for a broader faction roster hinted at in the campaign.

This development has sparked discussions about the game's longevity, with some likening it to *Skyrim*'s enduring popularity. Amidst the excitement, there's also news of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3* in development, raising questions about future DLC for *Space Marine 2*. However, both Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have reassured fans that they're not abandoning the game, ensuring that *Space Marine 2* is well-positioned for a vibrant future thanks to the modding community.
