"Witcher 4 Faces Delays Due to Unreal Engine Issues"

Daniel Vavra, the creator behind the Kingdom Come trilogy and a key figure at Warhorse Studios, has expressed strong criticism towards Unreal Engine, attributing its limitations to the production challenges faced by The Witcher 4. Vavra argues that Unreal Engine struggles with the demands of a detailed and expansive open world, a claim he supports by highlighting its historical issues with rendering vegetation like trees. He specifically mentioned that Unreal's Nanite technology falls short in generating realistic vegetation, a crucial element for immersive game environments.

A CD Projekt employee reportedly confirmed to Vavra that scenes which functioned smoothly on the RED Engine were causing significant issues when ported to Unreal. This has led to what Vavra describes as 'production hell' for the upcoming Witcher sequel. He further questions the decision of CD Projekt to abandon their in-house RED Engine in favor of Unreal, especially since many developers of open-world games opt to use custom engines tailored to their specific needs.

Vavra also touched on the engine's high system requirements, noting that Unreal Engine's ability to render stunning visuals comes at a steep cost, necessitating computers priced in the thousands of euros—a luxury not affordable to the average gamer.

Despite these criticisms, the anticipation for Warhorse Studios' next release remains high. The first installment of Kingdom Come: Deliverance introduced players to the rich tapestry of medieval Bohemia, and its sequel, set to launch on February 4, promises to continue Indřich's journey with upgraded graphics, a more refined combat system, and a narrative deeply rooted in historical accuracy.

In this article, we provide the latest updates on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, including system requirements and an estimated playthrough duration. Stay tuned for instructions on how to download the game upon its release, ensuring you're among the first to dive back into the medieval world.
