Valve Updates Development for 'Deadlock'

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 11,2025

Deadlock player count plummets, prompting Valve to overhaul its development strategy. The game's peak concurrent player count has fallen below 20,000, a significant drop from its previous high of over 170,000. In response, Valve has announced a change to its update schedule.

Moving forward, Deadlock will receive major updates on a flexible, non-fixed timeline. This shift, according to a developer, aims to improve the development process and deliver more substantial updates. Regular hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.

Previously, Deadlock followed a bi-weekly update cycle. While useful, developers found this schedule didn't allow sufficient time for implemented changes to fully stabilize and function correctly. This led to the decision to adopt a more adaptable approach.

The sharp decline in players, with daily peaks now between 18,000 and 20,000, doesn't necessarily signal trouble for the game. Deadlock, a MOBA-shooter still lacking a release date, remains in its early development stages. A 2025 or later release is likely, particularly considering Valve's apparent internal approval of a new Half-Life project.

Valve's emphasis is on quality, believing satisfied players will naturally generate revenue. The adjusted development process prioritizes developer efficiency, mirroring the evolution of Dota 2's update schedule. Therefore, there's no immediate cause for alarm regarding Deadlock's future.
