RAID: Shadow Legends is well-known for its RNG-based (random number generator) system, which can make summoning champions an exciting yet often frustrating experience. The thrill of pulling shards can quickly turn into disappointment, especially when you go through dozens or even hundreds of pulls without securing a coveted Legendary champion. To mitigate this, Plarium introduced what the community refers to as the “Pity System.” In this guide, we'll explore how this system works, evaluate its effectiveness, and discuss its impact on free-to-play (F2P) and low-spender players.
The Pity System is a hidden mechanic designed to enhance your chances of summoning higher rarity champions, such as Epics and Legendaries, the longer you go without pulling one. Essentially, if luck isn't on your side for an extended period, the game gradually increases your odds until you finally land a desirable champion. This system aims to prevent extended “dry streaks” where players might summon numerous shards without obtaining a valuable champion. While Plarium doesn't explicitly highlight this mechanic in-game, it has been confirmed through datamining, developer statements, and extensive player experiences.
For Sacred Shards, the base chance of pulling a Legendary champion is 6% per pull. The Pity System activates after 12 pulls without a Legendary:
Each subsequent pull after the 12th increases the Legendary odds by 2%.
The effectiveness of the Pity System isn't straightforward. While it's designed to help, many players report that the system's benefits are often realized too late—sometimes after they've already pulled a Legendary champion naturally. This raises the question of how the system could be improved to better serve players.
For free-to-play players, the constant grind and farming for shards can be disheartening without a Legendary champion to show for it. The Pity System is essential in such a gacha game as RAID: Shadow Legends, but there's room for improvement. For instance, reducing the number of pulls needed to activate the Pity System from 200 to perhaps 150 or 170 could make a significant difference. This adjustment would help players save more shards over time and make the system feel more impactful.
